Newly painted lacquer cabinets that were part of a full kitchen remodel.

These clients asked me to transform their oak cabinets.  They were “tired of staring at the same dingy picked oak cabinets for over 20 years.”  The cabinets were in desperate need of refinishing. The finish had yellowed and became soft, sticky, and dirty in areas that were “high use”.  Redefine worked with their budget and their vision to give them exactly what they wanted at exactly the price they could afford.

The results were astonishing! We decided on a vibrant white lacquer. It provided a glossy updated finish that is as beautiful as it is durable.  We worked with the homeowner to paint the walls a color that would contrast the cabinets and make the kitchen a work of art. It’s truly inspiring what a little wall and cabinet paint can contribute to a kitchen remodel.  The result is gorgeous.  They truly redefined their kitchen.

These clients valued the configuration of the current cabinets in their home yet didn’t feel that the style represented their design aesthetic.   They valued resourceful, earthy yet modern design. With the collaboration of an excellent home designer, these homeowners chose to re-face their existing cabinets.  The designer and I collaborated on products and techniques available to restore & renew their cabinets.
To prevent the waste of tearing out all the dated and worn oak cabinets, the designer chose an opaque lacquer to hide the blemishes on the face frames.  We went to work applying a specialty finish with the lacquer.   We then used a complimentary transparent stain on the new alder wood cabinet doors and drawer faces.  This transparent stain allowed the wood grain to show through accomplishing the modern earthy aesthetic. We then covered it with a clear coat. The knowledge of various products and our skillful techniques ensured that both the designer and the homeowner were beyond pleased.

This couple had downsized to a smaller place. They felt that the wood cabinetry made their kitchen feel small and dark.  They preferred a light and more spacious kitchen.
In order to brighten the kitchen up and keep things budget friendly, we chose to repaint the current cabinets to match the existing trim color.  Redefine painted them with a durable acrylic enamel. The kitchen is now bright and cheery.

These cabinets were due for some kind of refinishing. They had experienced a lot of love and use over the last thirty years.  The doors were nicked and the finished was worn.  The goal was to add personality and coziness to their kitchen without breaking the bank.
For the most dramatic yet budget friendly outcome, the homeowner opted to repaint the cabinets.  We added & installed a standard corner shelf that lent a custom unique feel.   We prepped, primed and sprayed them with a waterborne interior alkyd enamel.  This provided a clean, durable new kitchen at an incredible price.
